Fort Benning Visit

Message:
This past week, on Tuesday and Wednesday, approximately 30 loyal 1/50th Association souls & spouses made the trek to Fort Benning, Georgia, for the Investiture Ceremony of Dick Guthrie and Jay Copley as 50th Infantry Regiment Honorary Colonel and Command Sergeant Major, respectively. Most also stayed and were guests of the Battalion for the Change of Command Ceremony on Wednesday. We had the opportunity to welcome the new Battalion Commander, LTC Anthony Benitez. We will all get to know him better at our reunion next spring.
It was a reminder of how much I love being around ALL the men of this great unit….past and present! It was also a reminder that in less than 1 year, we will gather again near Fort Benning for our next Association Reunion.
Dates for the event are “TENTATIVELY” to be sometime within the first two weeks of May, 2009. Please note your calendars and yearly planners. The Reunion Committee is currently entertaining bids for the event from several area Motels and Hotels. We expect the room rate to remain close to what we have paid (per night) for the past two events…or about $80.00++.
I will be very busy this coming week….as I “slid” my regular work hours into position to abut next week’s workdays so I could attend this week’s events at Benning. Nevertheless, I will try to create a website page with a few photos of this week’s ceremonies sometime over the next week or so. I will, as usual, post a note here when it is done and a note on my “site updates” page.
It was great seeing all those who attended this week! I look forward to seeing many more of you next spring!
