All I could find was a reference to an engagement with elements of the 2nd VC Regiment & a combined action involving the 1/50th, 41st ARVN Regt & RF Forces on December 14 and lasting two days. 115 NVA were reported KIA...so this was no small engagement. As far as I can tell, this engagement was NOT a part of the Battle of Tam Quan.
It seems to me J. R. Ewing (Commo guy from Charlie Company) related a story to me about this battle once. He remembered that we kept pulling back for various TAC AIR Support. Each time tons of bombs were dropped...and more artillery was also poured on...but each time we subsequently went to move in...we would still receive enemy fire!...and at one point, they dropped CS Gas on the NVA....and the wind blew it back on the Charlie Company forces! Anyone remember this??? I think it may be the same engagement.
If you recall the engagement, please post a comment here. Also, please contact SSG Van Keuren's widow with any details of the battle you can recall.
