It was a hell of a bang. I was in the track directly behind them when the mine went off.
Bad day - and night. Since the explosion went off very late in the day, and the track caught fire right away, we had to leave it in place.
The intense flames kept cooking-off the 50 Cal ammo, so we had to pull back a safe distance near the beach and watch the track burn all night long. We kept vigil over the area & called parachute flares from Uplift during the night. We had to retrieve the men & track the next day. I won't go into the condition of the men in the track, but it was pretty bad. At least it was quick.

Sleep well Brothers.....
