1/50th Inf Ft Benning

Postby Die Schneider-Hector » Mon Jul 22, 2013 11:30 am

Good morning Jim Sheppard, I thought I would mention that the 1/50th Inf (no Mech) is part of the 198th Infantry Brigade (Training) at Ft Benning. If you haven't done so already perhaps your association could contact the Ft Benning people about connecting with them. I know that 198th Inf Bde (Vietnam) and 1/46 Inf Bn (Vietnam) have done this and apparently the ceremonies that have been held with the Vietnam vets of those units and the modern folks have gone quite well. I just thought I would make the suggestion but I'm sure you've already engaged in the effort. Again, best wishes. Dietmar Schneider-Hector formerly of 2d Bn (M) 50th Inf 2d Armorerd Division and 1st Bn 6th Inf 198th LIB Americal Division.

You are quite correct in "Assuming" we have already done so. Please visit our "Reunions" page and look at our interaction with the current day 50th Infantry at Fort Benning.

We have had a very personal interactive relationship with the unit since 2002 when we decided to hold a reunion there in 2003.

We have returned every other year since...and many have attended the "change of command" for the Battalion in June of even years as well.

As a former member of the 50th Infantry, you are eligible to join us (Association) as a member and/or as a reunion attendee. I would enjoy picking your brain about the 2nd Battalion in either Texas or Germany (or both?). Please visit my 2nd Battalion page and offer whatever input you like.
