"Rick" Garrett, age 57, "SCOUTS" Sept, 1969 to Sept, 1970, of Liberty, Indiana, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006.


LIBERTY, Ind. -- Richard Garrett, age 57, of Liberty, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006.

Born June 21, 1949, in Pennington Gap, Va., to Dallis and Virgie Clark Garrett, he lived in Wayne County most of his life.

Richard was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.

He worked as a spinner operator at Perfect Circle, retiring after 30 years of service. He was a member of Amvets Post 38, the VFW Post 1108 and American Legion Post 333.

Survivors include his son, Chris Garrett and wife Angie of Greens Fork; one granddaughter, Ashley Garrett; his mother; brothers, Tunis Garrett and wife Connie, Joe Garrett and wife Linda and David Garrett and wife Linda, all of Indiana; sisters, Brenda Brown of Kentucky and Linda Dils of Richmond; military brother, Walter "Happy" Gilbreath; and special friend, Joyce Phillips of Richmond.

He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Ray Garrett; and niece, Krista Dils.

Funeral service for Richard Garrett will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road W., Richmond, with Rev. Hisel Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Greens Fork South Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at the funeral home.
