Memorial located just off Highway 1... near the former access road to 8 inch hill. The pass between the hills at this location, Đèo Nhông, is celebrated as the site of a Communist victory... supposedly in 1965 (January or February) where 700 South Vietnamese and American forces were killed, 4 Aircraft destroyed and two M113 Armored Personnel Carriers were destroyed. Of course, no such battle ever took place on the scale described...and there were no APCs in that area until we arrived in 1967. A remembrance celebration is held here each year before Tet.
