General John W. Barnes, 173rd Airborne Brigade Commanding Officer,  pins award on Robert Newton on 19 July 1969...the day after he single handedly took out an enemy soldier in a bunker and tunnel who had tossed out a satchel charge and set off a claymore mine...wounding the 2nd Platoon Leader.
Here General Barnes pins on a Bronze Star...which was upgraded to a Silver Star and awarded via General Order #613, HQ IFFV, 17 September 1969
Robert Newton recalled: "It was the first time I had ever seen a general out in the rain!"
