Site Update History 2006

Association of the 1st Battalion, 50th Infantry (Mechanized) Site Updates

The Association has been taking steps to restore full function to our website. Beginning in Late December of 2005, these efforts began to take shape, thanks to the efforts of the elected officers as well as several volunteers. Watch for various pages and functions to slowly be brought "up to date" in the coming months. Please visit the Members Email page and check your information. If changes, additions or deletions are warranted, please email the new Website Committee . Historian Jim Sheppard is handling these updates.

Dec. 30, 2006	Added Jim Hobbs, Former SFC (S-4 Supply Sergeant, 9/1969 to 9/1970), to the "Taps" Page. "Hap" Gilbreath informed me Jim died sometime this past fall.
Dec. 27, 2006	Added downloadable Reunion 2007 Registration form to the Reunions page. Also added ten new photos to Jaime Cruz's photos on the Photographs Page. Pictured in these are what appears to be "B" Company on the move on and near Highway QL19 between An Khe and the Mang Yang Pass in late 1968 or early 1969.

Added a great photo of Vinny Russo and friends (All identified) compliments of Gus Allbritton via Frenchy's Website to the Photographs Page. This photo helped identify one of Vinny's friends pictured on several of his photos: "Red" Mansel.

Aug. 9, 2006	Added pages of the Daily Staff Journal for the action of SRAP in the vicinity of Pump Station 8 on March 21, 1969 to the Battles and Points of Interest Maps Page. A "rescan" of the Daily Staff Journal's "summary" at the end was done to show inproved readability. (See "Mang Yang Pass & Pump Station 8" map)

Bryan "Frenchy" Lagimoniere is sending photos of the Firebase and they will be added later....as well as the actual base coordinates. Input is appreciated on this map. Thanks to Rick Rajner for suggesting this map. Also added some interesting information on the ancient symbolism of the "Crow's Foot" to the Crow's Foot Vicinity map. Rigo Ordaz helpfully pointed out that the statistics on the Battle of An Bao on the Vietnam Time Line Pages were wrong and I subsequently made those changes...Thank you Rigo!

Feb. 11, 2006	Added 19th Combat Engineer Battalion to The Association Links page. This unit was involved in the Battle of Tam Quan and former member, Medic John Boyle, taught our Historian, Jim Sheppard "the ropes" at NARA, the National Archives Records Administration.
Feb. 9, 2006	Worked on updating the"Post Exchange" page. Most of the items listed are now available (Spent two days creating templates for the certificates offered there...they turned out great!). More (Hats, shirts, mugs, etc) will be available after the next reunion.
Feb. 6, 2006	Updated Crossed Rifle (Life Membership indicator) Image next to the names of 15 additional Association Life Members on the Members Email page. Added Information on the death of Leon Walker to the Association's Obituary page.
Feb. 4, 2006	At the suggestion of Dick Guthrie, I will be adding a small Crossed Rifle Image next to the names of our Association Life Members on the Members Email page. I have added these to the Life Members from the only list I had....which was from the Awards Page which was posted in 2003. Gary Quint will be sending me an updated list.

Jan. 30, 2006	At his own request, Rigo Ordaz has stepped down from his services helping update our Members Email page. Thanks to Rigo, the transition and updating of this vital members page was made much easier. Rigo helped expidite over 50 changes during the transitional month of January. Thank you Rigo for volunteering during this time!

Jan. 24, 2006	Posted updated announcement on the "Post Exchange" page and changed most of the contact email addresses there. We will begin to develope this aspect of the Association website in the near future. Look for updates here or check the PX pages from time to time. Added list of attendees to the 2005 Reunion on the Reunion page. Somehow, the alignment of the page became corrupted. I cannot seem to correct my mistake and have called for reinforcements! ~grin~ Must admit I am better in the archives than in figuring out html tags!
