TAM QUAN VIDEO

Postby rigo-ordaz » Wed Jan 23, 2013 10:20 am

Guess what! Our friend Pete Tovar found this video while checking out 113 videos on you tube- a video of Delta Co. at the battle of Tam Quan. enjoy- I think it's the third platoon at Dai Dong 2 just a bit after we crossed the trench and bunker line. I was a few tracks south and remember the guy was filming from the other track. Just skip the advertisement

The troops on the ground are from the 1/8 Cav Rgmt., 1st. Cav. It seems that Mech troops work well with regular Infantry alongside, as opposed to dismounting.

I'm not sure about 1/8 cav but I know we had the 1/12 cav.
There is a book out Boy Sergeant by Doug Warden. It tells about The Battle of Tam Quan with 1st 50th.
About working with the APC. If I remember tells about one the tracks being hit.

The 1/8th Cavalry was there from the beginning on the 6th with Alpha 1/50. Delta Co. was Upcon to them and we went in together at Dai Dong (2) We worked good with A,B 1/8th and then C 1/8th, We carried the brunt at Dai Dong (2) on the 7th 8th and 9th Dec 1967 and were able to penetrate their trench and bunker line in that village. (That's the You tube video)
One A Co. 1/50 track got hit with a rocket and one got mired in the mud on the 6th. Delta Co. 1st Plt got a direct hit by a friendly 105 Arty on Lt. Driscoll's track
The 1/12 Cav. came in from Dak To on the 8th or 9th but got sent to the beach to work towards the West. On this push west their Charlie Co. got ambushed in a rice paddy and they lost their commander. On 10th Dec. 67 the 1/12 Cav was with B Co. 1/50 at Troung Lam (1) While D 1/50 was engaged at My An (2)
Later in the battle A and C companies of the 1/50 continued the battle with 1/12 and 2/12. Rigo

That was a great video who took that.
It must have taken Pete a while to find it

The video is part of a training video made by the Army about Airmobility. I think I have it, I just need to dig it up. I am also buying some footage but it costs about $300- Anyway let me see what I find.

Upon a second review it seems that most of the tracks on this video belong to the 3rd Platoon. #413 and #415
